I often do a painting project that I’m afraid to attempt after first completing several easier less scary pieces. This is a process that has developed lately, and stems I believe, from a thinking that my every step in my art career needs, from here on, to be very calculated in order to maximize success. For now that translates to doing small works like the encaustic series I just completed, (see below)

In order to work on larger works like this Pilot series of drawings and paintings. After a week where I was generally off from the studio I finally gathered the courage to start the fourth Pilot series drawing. I’m trying to make each level of drawings and paintings twice the size of the prior pieces; and so this drawing is twice the size of the three drawings previous and the three drawings after will be twice as large as this fourth drawing I completed today. When all the drawings and paintings are completed and shown together I hope the progressively larger works will give the paintings a kind of dramatic gravitas. Well see. So here’s a studio shot of my life saver encaustic paintings and the fourth Pilot series drawing. Enjoy.
