Commissions
Commissions are now open for both Abstract Narrative and Landscape works.
Anthony Smith Jr. Studios welcomes the opportunity to create custom works for collectors who wish to bring something deeply personal into their spaces. Each commission begins with a conversation about stories, memories, or places that carry meaning and ends with a work that speaks in my visual language of texture, collage, and layered color.
Each commission is a partnership rooted in trust and dialogue. I take great care in translating each client’s vision into something singular and lasting. Please reach out directly via the contact form or email to discuss timelines, scale, and concept. I look forward to creating something meaningful together.
For Landscape Commissions, I work from your reference photos or personal landmarks such as quiet backyards, distant skylines, or wide-open horizons. Using my palette knife technique, I build depth and motion through textured layers of paint that translate both the light and the feeling of the place. Each work is designed and made entirely by hand, custom in scale and tone, to honor the emotion behind the view.

The piece above was inspired by the backyard landscape of Rachel Brubaker’s childhood home. To learn more about how this piece came to be, check out my video interview with Rachel! It provides valuable insight into the process of commissioning a landscape work and gives you an idea of what you can expect working together on your piece to be like.
For Abstract Narrative Commissions, the approach is more interior, a collaboration shaped by fragments of photographs, written memories, or found materials you provide. These pieces weave color, collage, and gesture into layered compositions that explore memory, time, and identity. Rather than depicting a specific scene, they aim to evoke presence and spirit, creating something felt as much as seen.

The piece above was inspired by the life and philanthropic endeavors of Julius Rosenwald. To learn more about this piece, the incredible inspiration that went into it, and the unique situation that led to this commission being made, check out my video interview with Michael Baker. It provides valuable insight into the process of commissioning an abstract narrative work and gives you an idea of what to expect when working together on your piece.
